SONATINA/ SONATA FESTIVAL

This event promotes musical awareness of the form and style of Sonatinas/Sonatas through an adjudicated format. Students perform one movement from a required repertoire list for a judge in a recital setting. Students are eligible to earn an Outstanding Award medal for various performance characteristics. SILVER STATE COMPETITION

Location: Clark HS

Registration fee: $45

This is a local competition for students to compete with other students in his/her grade.  It is open for 1st through 12th graders.  A student can enter as a Solo or part of an Ensemble.  Additionally they choose either the Classical Music or Social Music category.  The following awards may be given out in each group:  First Place, Second Place, Honorable Mention.  For more information, visit nvmta.com

JAZZ FESTIVAL

A fun recital where choice of music must come from the Jazz, Ragtime, or Blues genre.  This is an adjudicated event and memorization is required.  All participants will receive a certificate.  Those who earn a Superior with Distinction rating will receive a gold seal and medal.  Visit lvmta.com for further details.

ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL

Location: Clark High School Theater

Registration fee: $20

This festival highlights the performance of music written for two or more people to play.  It is great for students to team up with siblings or friends who also play the piano or another instrument.  This is an adjudicated performance, but music does not need to be memorized.  All students receive a certificate and colored ribbon based on rating received.  Students can also choose the Junior Festival option where they prepare two songs and collect points towards a trophy.  Students who do not have an ensemble partner may enter with the Showcase Piece option. MUSICIANSHIP TECHNIQUE/ REPERTOIRE EXAM

Registration fee: $10-15 depending on Level entered

This portion of the exam is eligible to students who have passed the corresponding theory level exam with a score of 70 or higher.   Students must present various technical requirements, as listed in the Syllabus.  Additionally, students must prepare four pieces, one from each period of music (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Contemporary).  Two out of the four pieces must be memorized.  Students will receive a score, written comments, and trophy.  For more information, visit www.lvmta.org

LEGACY COMPETITION

Location: Clark High School

Registration fee: $65

This classical music only competition is open to students ages 9-18. Students compete with solos in Piano, Strings, Woodwind, and Voice divisions. They may also enter as a Piano Ensemble or Chamber Group. Students compete with others in their age group - 9-10 year olds, 11-12 year olds, etc. Awards given out may include First Place, Second Place, and Honorable Mentions. This is a non-competitive national event where students are adjudicated on their own merits.  Students prepare two pieces to perform and can be awarded up to 5 points per playing level entered.  Memorization is required.  Each time 15 points are accumulated, a trophy is received.  Honors medals are given out at the adjudicator's discretion for outstanding performances.  For more information, visit www.nfmc-music.org
